Salzwirker brothers celebrate 500 years of tradition in Halle!

Halle, Deutschland - Halle, the city of the "white gold", celebrates an impressive anniversary! The Halloren Salzwirker brothers are reminiscent of their glorious past, which goes back to the Bronze Age. Historian Rüdiger Just, once headed by the brotherhood, emphasizes: "There are many good reasons to celebrate our long history." On Thursday there are a solemn service and a magnificent salt table in the town house to keep the traditions alive.

The salt extraction in Halle has a long and fascinating story. As early as 1263, four brine fountains around the Hallmarkt were mentioned, where up to 800 men produced the coveted salt. The Hallores developed into a brotherhood with their own rules and privileges that still exist today. The Salzwirker brothers currently have 50 members and 8 candidates who have to distinguish themselves by an impeccable reputation. The trend that is worn on special occasions is based on the traditions of the 18th century.

traditions are revived

The closure of the last salt in 2020 meant a turning point, but traditions continue to live! A new attraction is being built on the site of the former production facility: the "Technical Hallor and Salin Museum". Museum director Ingo Beljan announces that the large settlement South will act as the entrance area and will show parts of the permanent exhibition of the former Salin Museum, including the legendary silver treasure of the Hallores. The Siedhalle Nord with an impressive boiling pan will open in 2025 and will impressively present the importance of salt and the history of Halleschen salt production.
