In May 2024, a terrible fire devastated the kindergarten in the Rothenkirchen district and left the community with damage of around 2 million euros. But while others often hesitate in politics, Mayor Andreas Gruner (50, independent) grabbed immediately. "Usually the planning would have taken 18 months," he explains. But a reconstruction was set up here in record time of just six months!

The fire broke out during welding on the roof of the newly renovated "Steinbergwichtel" daycare center. Funken flight put the building on fire, and before the smoke detectors struck, five educators and trainees were able to bring 49 children to safety. The fire brigade was powerless - the building was lost.

"Already one day after the fire we worked for the reconstruction at the specification," emphasizes Gruner. This turbo planning was also praised by District Administrator Thomas Hennig (47, CDU): "This shows what happens when everyone involved works in hand." The children will be housed in primary school until the opening of the new daycare center, while the crib continued in another building.

The mayor, who was elected in 2022 with 97.7 percent, urges quick action: "It is about nothing more than our children, after all, they are our future." Despite the winter conditions that could delay the construction start, Gruner is optimistic: "If the weather plays along, the daycare center could be back in 2025." The community shows that solutions can be found quickly even after a great misfortune!
