Conversion of the Spatzenhaus: 7 million for the future of daycare centers!
Bad Düben. An exciting chapter begins in the city: The conversion of the popular day care center Spatzenhaus has started and is funded with a whopping seven million euros! Investments will be made here until September 2026, with two thirds of the federal and state expenses. The special? The Kitas Spatzenhaus and fairytale land are united under one roof, but remain independent and continue to pursue their unique pedagogical concepts. The decision not to tear off the Spatzenhaus, but to modernize, save the city a lot of money - over 13 million euros would have been necessary for a new building!
The first steps have already been taken: the dismantling has started! Electrical installations, floor coverings and drywall work are removed to make room for the extensive renovations. The shell will start from January 2024. The interiors are fundamentally redesigned to ensure better accessibility of the group rooms. A new development corridor is created, which facilitates access to toilets and cloakrooms. "It will be a major intervention in the interior," explains Markus Krisch from the building authority. The heating and electrical systems are also completely renewed while the courtyards are preserved.

But that has consequences for traffic! The Steinstraße will be completely closed until June 30, 2026 so as not to endanger the construction work. Drivers have to adapt to a changed one -way street regulation so that they can continue to achieve the daycare center and adjacent plots. "We did everything to make the circumstances as pleasant as possible for everyone involved," emphasizes daycare manager Simone Walter. Despite the challenges, the anticipation for the return to the Spatzenhaus remains great!
