Castle Leuben: A baroque jewel shines in new splendor!

Oschatz. In the middle of a magnificent park, Le Le Leuben rises a masterpiece of the Saxon baroque that takes visitors into a different time. When entering the imposing entrance hall, you are welcomed by historical paintings and gold -decorated mirrors that bring the atmosphere of the 18th century alive. The magnificent furniture and the artistically designed stucco work above the fireplace testify to the former splendor of the castle.

Today Leo and Marion von Sahr are the proud lords. In 2017 they acquired the property and moved in in 2019 after extensive renovation to preserve the castle from decay. "Dahlen was very valuable. Of course, the baroque furniture fits better in the baroque castle than in our farm," says Marion von Sahr with a smile. Her family, who has lived in Schlössern for centuries, now has the opportunity to preserve the historical heritage and at the same time lead a modern life.

The castle is not only a private home, but also a place of encounter. Numerous visitors attract monthly tours and various events such as mulled wine festivals and Christmas markets. "We were convinced by our son that despite our age it is a good idea to change everything," explains Leo von Sahr. The family also runs a small farm shop with its own organic products and rents lovingly furnished holiday apartments via Airbnb. "We have to see that these outbuildings are at least no more water without a floor," said the 71-year-old.

But life in a castle also has its challenges. The high costs and monument protection make heating a challenge. "In the other rooms you have to use a sweater," reports Marion von Sahr. Despite the challenges, those of Sahrs are happy to fill the castle with life and to preserve the history of the place. "We are very enjoying what the castle club and we have created," says the master of the castle proudly.
