Eilenburg students dance as the youngest debutant at Semperopernball!

Eilenburg. Leopold Köhler and Theresa Sigismund, two talented tenth graders of the Martin-Rinckart high school, stand short, Before that, you will have a remarkable experience: You will appear as debutants at the 100th Semperopernball in Dresden on February 7, 2025. Both will celebrate their 16th birthdays just in time, which makes them the youngest participants of the prestigious event.

The anticipation for the evening, which will be characterized by glamorous dresses and festive atmosphere, could not be greater. But how did this extraordinary participation come about? Experience in past dance balls laid the foundation stone.

The way to the ball of balls

Theresa reveals with a smile that her grandpa Thomas Sigismund played a central role in this decision. As a passionate dancer, he had participated in numerous final balls of the family, which motivated the young couple to also swing their legs. With joy and zeal they visited dance courses in their hometown, where they learned important basic knowledge.

Moritz Büttner, her dance teacher, describes the two as particularly motivated. "It is getting better and better with fun," he explains about her progress, which they led to the advanced dance circles. It stands out that the two already shone as impressive opening pairs at local dance events.

The next step on her way was interesting: The grandpa learned about the tender for debutants and brought the idea into play. So there was a casting in Coswig, in which 180 couples were able to demonstrate their skills. Theresa and Leopold, always optimistic, competed with low expectations because they knew what competition was waiting for them.

"We didn't know if we would make it. The experience of other couples was impressive," admits Leopold. Nevertheless, at the crucial moment they gave the courage to present themselves to the jury in a special way. This paid off when number 48 was announced, which corresponded to its start number. "We were simply overjoyed and couldn't believe it," says the euphoric Theresa.

But such an experience is not without costs. Overall, the two families expect around 650 euros per debutant, which includes various costs such as dance clothing, hairdressers and make-up. While Theresa wants a magnificent dress, Leopold doesn't look much different. The boys also have to struggle with such expenses, especially since the rental of a tuxedo can cost a high sum.

Nevertheless, the families are ready to invest in the extraordinary experience. In addition to the financial burden, preparation time requires a lot of patience and commitment. The week before the ball, daily rehearsals in Dresden, which represent a challenge, are both in terms of school material and training itself.

Not only money, but also time plays an important role in this project. The trial times require that the two travel to Dresden on different days after school. While you live your dream, you will also have to experience the necessary restrictions in everyday life.

"We hope that in the short time we learn all processes and not get out of the rhythm," says Leopold with a wink. "But it will certainly be a unique experience that we look forward to," adds Theresa.

There is an interesting turn in communication: On the ball evening itself, the debutants can take part in the celebrations until later. But they are denied access to the buffet, which the parents take note of. So a personal hospitality during the ball is not possible, but by the live broadcast of the event you have the chance to celebrate your debut with your own families, even if you cannot interact directly.

The big event is not only for the two debutants themselves, but for all of their families. The anticipation of what will come is tangible. The ball assembly area will be full of splendor and festive atmosphere for 2500 guests. And there will certainly be an unforgettable show for the 10,000 additional guests before. "We can't wait, it will be magical," enthuses Theresa.

The two debutants are ready to experience an unforgettable experience. The Semperopernball, a symbol of elegance, Tradition and a touch of glamor, could actually be the beginning of many wonderful nights for Leopold Köhler and Theresa Sigismund. This unique opportunity not only marks the end of a chapter, but also the exciting start in a new phase of life.
