Klaus Engemann, the unforgettable department head of athletics at the ESV Lok, opened the last chapter of his remarkable running career - and that in style when the torchy run! Even though the 86-year-old now lives in Königswusterhausen, he did not miss the opportunity to be part of the Grandios final of the 20th Middle Saxon running tour in the Bürgergarten stadium. The occasion was perfect: a record star field of 144 runners and a cup of honor were waiting for him!

Klaus Engemann has an impressive sporting vita. He is not only successful on the career, but also on the skis a real AS! After he originally started with shot put and javelin throwing, the athlete found Dr. Jochen Zetzsche to his true passion - running. Among the countless sporting events he contested, the Isa and Wasa run and the world run "Worldloppet" should be emphasized. "I was the 2218th worldwide, which is why the title Worldloppet-Champion was awarded", he still beams about his success today.

Special appreciation for an icon

His merits during the ranking runs are unmistakable and some admit that good Klaus often came to the finish line after the overall winner! "Klaus Engemann is what Toni Kroos is for football in Germany for running in Döbeln," called organizer Frank Brückner. In the shimmering glow of the torches, Engemann made an impressive 12 laps - almost 5 kilometers! Döbelner Marcus Hirsch secured the overall victory of the torchy run with an incredible 15,600 meters, while the women's ranking was dominated by Antje Müller on 13,200 meters.

Klaus is already planning his comeback: On November 4, he will take over 7.5 kilometers as an honorary member of the 38th run "Around the Krummen See"! With the look back at his golden collection of medals and trophies, which he left to the city archive, it is clear: his pedestal remains alive! And maybe we'll see him again on the middle Saxon running tour 2025 - "as long as I can still drive myself, it should be possible," Engemann promises to be enthusiastic! Future, we are coming!
