Kristin Taube: Ostrau's fire brigade heroine in use for human life!
in Ostrau, a small town in Saxony, the volunteer fire brigade is carried by a strong team, which also includes Kristin Taube. She is more than just a firefighter; She is the heart of her group. Every time the siren sounds, she feels the adrenaline thrust that drives it. "Despite all the excitement, we have to remain calm and must not act headless," explains the 37-year-old. Her professional experience as a dental assistant has certainly helped her to keep a cool head.
Since 2015 Taube has been active and looks back on many exciting missions. She can remember her first assignment after the basic course: a serious traffic accident in which the team had to free injured people from a car. "I trembled with excitement," she recalls. The monumental fire in Saxon Switzerland in 2022 also remains in its reminder because she had to work under extreme conditions for hours.
Trust in the need
In fire service, it is crucial to be able to rely on teammates, especially when using breathing protection. Teamwork is indispensable at moments when visibility and orientation can be lost. "We go in together and come out together," she emphasizes. The strong team feeling is to always motivate Kristin Taube to also train the next Generation of firefighters.
Aktiv as supervisor of the youth fire brigade is Taube an important mentor for young members who consist of two girls and six boys. Together not only the craft is trained, but also practiced handling with extinguishing foam and even an animal rescue is simulated. "The children are always enthusiastic when we save off the tree with a plush cat," she jokes.
Another highlight for young people is the 24-hour service, where realistic missions are simulated. "It is important that you get to know the processes, as you also take to the professional fire brigade," she explains proudly. The seriousness of the situation in combination with fun and a certain seriousness is conveyed.
Challenges of the operations
However, the reality of the fire service can also be very challenging. "Sometimes our help comes too late. We have to teach the children that," explains Taube. The fire brigade is often called for operations where it may be about life and death. "We all have to be aware of this," she adds. They are unpredictable missions where the team never knows exactly what is waiting for them.
The 16-year-old Leonie Kannegießer, who is active herself, describes Taube as her fire brigade. She admires her positive way and the ability to help in difficult situations. "We have the fire brigade, which our military line once said," added Kristin Taube with a smile. This feeling of community and support is the core that holds the Ostrau fire brigade together and is also preparing for future challenges.
