Crisis situation in Freiberg: New container classrooms for refugee children!
in Freiberg The situation is tense: the Clemens-Winkler school bursts at the seams! Mayor Sven Krüger (non -party) commissioned a container with two classrooms for around 500,000 euros on the school premises to cope with the dramatic increase to students. Before the Ukraine War, there were only ten children from the country in Freiberg, now there are an incredible 371! This corresponds to the needs of two daycare centers, two primary schools and a secondary school.
The situation is alarming! Four first classes were set up at the Clemens Winkler School this year, and 80 percent of these children do not speak German as a mother tongue. "There can be no more integration," warns Krüger. The capacity limits have been reached and he urgently demands new solutions to secure the education of every child. "If we don't wake up at some point and find other ways, the shop flies around our ears," said the mayor.
crisis summit for refugee distribution
On Monday there was a conference in the district office of Central Saxony entitled "(residential) integration", which urgently dealt with the fairer distribution of the refugees in the district. Krüger emphasizes that most refugees are housed in Freiberg, Döbeln and Hainichen. "At the moment, about 200 Ukrainians move to Freiberg per quarter, half of them are minors." The city has exceeded the Saxon and nationwide average with a proportion of foreigners of 18 percent.
Lothar Beier, the 1st deputy in the district office, raises the alarm: "Where the foreigners in schools are over 50 percent, successful integration is hardly possible." The refugees have to be distributed more fairly, and the mayors are called to find solutions together with their housing associations. Cities feedback in Central Saxony on free capacities for refugee accommodation are expected in two weeks. Time is pushing!
