Burgberg in Kriebstein: Construction site on schedule and new sidewalks!

Kreinstein. An exciting project accepts shapes! The Burgberg in Kriebstein, known as the steepest street in Saxony, is currently being expanded and the interest of the public is growing. While the construction work is progressing, residents and visitors must currently accept detours to get to the Kriebstein dam. But the good news: the work is fully on schedule! Already in the second week of December, the completion of the side areas is expected. Peggy Hähnel, press officer of the district office, promises that the exact date for the traffic release will soon be announced.

Since October 2023, work has been worked on this impressive road, which extends over 510 meters and has a slope of 24 percent. The asphalt fragment layer was already installed in July by the Zschopau bridge to the castle, and the installation of the asphalt layers in the upper section has been completed by Thursday of this week. From November 4, it will be continued in the side areas and the rest of the sidewalk. The new road walking, which leads almost floating over the steep slope, will allow pedestrians to take a breathtaking view of the castle.

Financing and cost increases

The renovation of the Burgberg costs a total of 3.3 million euros, with the district bearing around two million euros. The municipality of Kriebstein has planned 1.1 million euros, supported by a high funding rate of 85 percent. But be careful! The costs increase by around 137,000 euros because the geological conditions are more difficult than expected. The fragile rock and the additional disposal of the contaminated asphalt have raised the expenses. Mayor Maria Eichler emphasizes that Walter Straßenbau Etzdorf has made an excellent offer to implement this ambitious project.
