Leipzig and Krakow: New ways of cooperation in the youth field!

Krakau, Polen - The war in Ukraine brought the cities of Leipzig and Krakow closer together than ever before! Much of the aid deliveries from Leipzig to Kyjiw was organized via Krakow. In the sign of this trilateral cooperation, the partner cities of Leipzig, Krakau and Kyjiw are planning an exciting youth exchange for 2024, which will take place in Leipzig in June and in September in Krakow. This initiative promises to further consolidate the gang between the cities!

The connection between Leipzig and Krakow has existed for over 50 years! The partnership certificate was first signed in September 1973 and renewed in 1995. The new city president of Krakau, Dr. Aleksander Miszalski, who took office on May 7, 2024, brings a breath of fresh air. The 44-year-old, who previously led his own tourism company and was sitting in the Polish Sejm from 2019 to 2024, speaks German fluently and immediately gets on well with Mayor Burkhard Jung. Jung emphasizes: "We want to continue the proven cooperation and explore new areas such as membership in the European City Network Eurocities."

new horizons of collaboration

dr. Miszalski shares this vision and emphasizes the importance of existing cooperation in the areas of youth, culture and social issues. "We also have to work closer together in digitization, revitalization and city marketing," he explains. Both cities have a lot to learn from each other and can benefit from the exchange of experts and experiences. This dynamic partnership could set new standards!

But that's not all! Mayor Jung will also take part in a symposium of the European Jewish Association on the subject of anti -Semitism in Krakow. A visit to the former Auschwitz concentration camp is also on his agenda, where he will commemorate the European Jews murdered during the Nazi era. A significant moment that underlines the deep roots of the city partnership!
