Court stops Amazon: Advertising drum in Prime Video Silbs!
The Düsseldorf district court has decided: Amazon may no longer offer its streaming service Prime Video in Germany in its previous form. The trigger was an injunction from Alcatel-Lucent, which was successful after Amazon confronted its users without prior consent to advertising. Since February 2024, Prime Video has been advertising - despite the choice, to continue to stream ad -free for an additional charge of 2.99 euros a month. Consumer advocates regard this procedure as an inadmissible contract adaptation, which resulted in a large number of complaints against the group, as the Krone reported.
massive consumer reaction against Amazon
According to reports, almost 83,000 people have already joined an action against Amazon in order to defend themselves against the new advertising practices. This massive participation shows that many consumers are not willing to simply accept such price adjustments, according to the Saxons Consumer Center. The plaintiffs were extensively explained to the customers, and interest in it is growing steadily. In turn, Amazon had failed to actively ask customers for approval, which means that consumers are now to be pushed in a legal way to reimbursement of over 35 million euros in too much paid fees, as reported. In addition to these legal challenges, Amazon plans to invest massive investments in the infrastructure for artificial intelligence: over 96 billion euros are to flow in this area after $ 26.3 billion in the expansion in the previous year. From these developments it becomes clear that Amazon invests in other business areas despite the legal problems and the growing customer dissatisfaction, while the pressure from the consumer protection scene continues to exist, such as online dealer-newsDetails | |
