After almost two years of intensive construction work, the motorway bridge over Wilkau-Haßlau was finally opened for traffic. The A72 between Zwickau-Ost and Zwickau-West was severely restricted until December 13, 2023. Now the traffic is rolling again normally, even if there are still some remaining work that can bring about other daily construction sites and restrictions. According to the federal government, the lane was expanded to a width of 12.50 meters and the carrier panels as well as warehouse and transition constructions were extensively renewed. The entire renovation costs around 20 million euros, such as Radio Zwickau reported.

As part of these extensive construction measures, a road surface of 43,200 m² was renewed on a distance of 3.5 km, which required a total of 30,000 t asphalt. In addition, a 3.5 km long concrete protection wall was installed to improve traffic safety, and 4 km of a protective bank was also installed. The large motorway bridge over the hollow was also renovated and the construction work for further repairs will continue in 2024. In 2025, a further renewal of the Chemnitz directional lane is planned, such as the website of the municipality Reinsdorf

The extensive renovation measures are part of a larger project to improve traffic safety and infrastructure on the A72 and are carried out on behalf of Autobahn GmbH of the federal government. The theses on the rainwater retention basin, including in the Vielau area, are the next steps to further optimize the traffic conditions.
