Dance in the three -dimensional: Chemnitz ballet evening enthusiastic!

An exciting ballet evening in the Chemnitz Theater caused a sensation and discussions in the dance scene. Various choreographies were presented at the premiere of the evening "Kaleidoscope", the arrangement of which led to debates. The order of the performances often appears arbitrary, but decisions must be made for technical reasons. In the event of this evening, you could actually feel that any other order of the pieces would have been equally suitable. This underlines the independence of the individual concepts.

the troop was allowed to start with "vertical games" by choreographer Fabrice Guillot. Here, dancers literally hung in ropes. These special ropes not only allowed horizontal movements, but also to climb and swing free in the air. In theory, this should expand the room by a third dimension. But the ropes also revealed restrictions and led to the dancers fought with difficulty not to get tangled. A clear indication that special physical education is required for such movements. The sight was impressive, but the piece remained behind the possibilities.

an outstanding work and its dynamic performance

of the restrictions of the ropes was the next piece, "Constellation Septem" by Yvruk, a blatant contrast. This work turned out to be the clearest and most appealing performance of the evening. Here the choreographer showed how fine the transition between different movement styles can be. A group of seven dancers was sent to the stage, with Koh Yoshitake seting a new accent with his striking costume. While the other dancers acted harmoniously and elegantly, Yoshitake brought fresh influences into the game, supported by the groove-based sounds of Porter Ricks. Here the impulses harmonized, which caused a positive response from the audience.

A deeper look at the evening offered "Here We Stand" by Tú Hoàng. Despite the flexible choreography and the potential for enthusiasm, it remained unclear what was the intention of the piece. The dancers ran and moved synchronously, but there was no connection to the pulsating life of a club like Berghain. The concept of hedonism did not come into its own, and the piece could not reach the audience with a clear concept. A lot was tried here, but the concrete ideas remained in the dark.

crowning the evening - an intoxicating performance

Fortunately, Andonis Foniadakis managed to take the evening powerfully to the end with "Dreamwave". The performance gave the impression that the ensemble had to give everything to offer the spectators a gripping experience. The choreography underlaid with music of the Cocteau Twins was so intense that the efforts of the dancers were also felt as a spectator. The neoclassical language language combined at an impressive speed that was filled with passion and drama. It was hard to believe how this piece then shaped the entire evening.

Overall, there was a lot of discussion in “Kaleidoscope”, both for lovers of traditional and contemporary dance art. This evening impressively showed how diverse and challenging the dance art can be.
