Biomass power plant in Brand-Erbisdorf: bankruptcy and layoffs!
Brand-Erbisdorf/Chemnitz. A dramatic setback for renewable energies! The biomass power plant in Brand-Erbisdorf has stopped operating and the operating company ADC GmbH is insolvent! 20 employees were released in early November, and the future of the power plant is on the brink. Insolvency lawyer Frank-Rüdiger Scheffler from the Business Chancellery in Chemnitz confirmed that you are still looking for investors, but taking on such a power plant is anything but simple.
ADC GmbH was proud to create "green electricity" from natural forest chopping chips that were obtained from the area. But the model based on wood and corn seems to encounter resistance from the green Federal Ministry of Economics. Scheffler criticized that operators of biomass power plants are disadvantaged compared to wind energy systems. Especially in the summer months, you even have to pay off to feed your electricity into the network. In contrast to wind turbines, biomass power plants cannot be easily switched off with low electricity requirements.
regulatory pressure and delivery bottlenecks
Another reason for bankruptcy is "over-regulation" in the field of renewable energies. According to Scheffler, only wood chips were allowed to be burned by certified suppliers, which led to significant delivery bottlenecks. Despite the prepayment, the camps remained empty, and the power plant needed over 5,000 cubic meters of wood chips every week. This combination of strict regulations and lack of deliveries led to the illiquidity of the company, which ultimately led to bankruptcy.
