Reservoir in Teichnitz: Refurbishment 2025 brings big changes!

Stauseestraße, 02625 Bautzen, Deutschland - Bautzen faces an urgently needed street renovation! The reservoir in the Teichnitz district, which is in a catastrophic state, will be extensively renovated in 2025. Cracks, holes and uneven banquet strips shape the image of the street that runs between the A4 bridge and the Eichenweg. Andrea Hentzschel, the department head for civil engineering, describes the street as a single source of danger for drivers and cyclists. The width varies between 3.90 and 5 meters, and the asphalt ceiling is not even frost -proof!

But that's not all! The reservoir is also part of the bike path around the dam, which makes driving by bike a ordeal. In heavy rain, floods of neighboring land threaten, and the bus stops are anything but barrier -free. The city has now decided to expand the road to a uniform width of 5.55 meters so that two vehicles can easily meet. Tempo 30 remains, but security is significantly improved by new, barrier -free bus stops and a wider sidewalk.

The costs for the renovation have exploded! Originally, 450,000 euros were planned in the household, but now 620,000 euros are expected. The city councils had to decide on an additional payment of 170,000 euros to implement the project. Another 115,000 euros are planned for road drainage, and the renewal of a concrete channel is estimated at 230,000 euros. The price increases are due to extensive earthworks and the need to repair the Eichenweg as a detour route.

Despite the increased costs, there was no discussions in the city council meeting - all unanimously voted for the fundamental expansion of the reservoir. Bautzen is ready for a safe and modern traffic artery!
