Art in old age: Kamenz painter plans anniversary projects for 2025
In painting, Hans Fritsch, an 89-year-old artist from Kamenz, developed a remarkable passion that accompanies him into old age. Despite his physical restrictions that occurred after a car accident, he remains active and creative. Fritsch is known in the regional art scene and has participated in numerous exhibitions over the years. Most recently, together with 160 other artists in the Eastern Saxon Kunsthalle Pulsnitz.
He is currently planning to artistically implement his ideas for the upcoming 800th anniversary of Kamenz in 2025. "The mayor was with us on our wedding day and we talked about it. Ideas for posters or art printing cards came up," explains Fritsch.
artistic development and sources of inspiration
He originally came from Vogtland and came to Kamenz in 1955 during his time at the army, where he studied at the former officer college. Fritsch has had an unusual career: he started as a carpet pattern painter, which enabled him to take the first steps in graphic figures. "I wanted to be a shoemaker first, but my teacher advised me to paint," he recalls. So he developed his skills over the years.
Painting was always part of his life, even if it was initially just a hobby. Together with a friend, he mainly painted landscapes in Kamenz. Today Fritsch prefers abstract and graphic works that touch complex topics, from technological changes to environmental issues.
His source of inspiration is versatile; With a preference for philosophical programs by 3sat, he draws ideas for his art. "I often don't know where the sketch leads. Art takes time, it has to mature," he says, describing how different the process of painting can be.
He experiments with various techniques, including oil, acrylic and watercolor, but the smell of oil has become too strong for his wife. "My heart beats for oil, but I have to take into account," adds Fritsch with a smile.
The passion for art runs through Fritsch's life. "I am happy when I can give away my works. It's less about fame than much more about preparing others," he explains. Many of his works find space in apartments of neighbors and acquaintances.
meaning of art and social issues
Fritsch organized art exchanges in Advent during his active time for over 16 years that moved thousands of visitors to the city. "These events were important for the networking of art lovers in Kamenz," he sums up. His social responsibility is also noticeable in the present if it is concerned about the cultural heritage of the city.
With a view to the future, Fritsch says: "I want to leave something, something that remains." The political and social situation, especially in relation to peace and social justice, is important to him. "The expenditure for armor should better flow into civil protection," he says concerned about the priorities of society.
Fritsch continues his artistic work in his apartment, where his studio is in his daughter's nursery. Despite his restrictions, he is optimistic and expresses his gratitude for his quality of life and the support of his wife.
The next steps in the art of Hans Fritsch already seem drawn. His works, as he plans it, could represent an important part of the celebrations as part of the city anniversary. "I would be very happy if I could contribute something to the city anniversary," he emphasizes and looks optimistically into the future.
