Steinigtwolmsdorf is on the verge of a dramatic change! The small community could overthrow the last shopping market into a supply crisis. The near-and-good market of Frank Schilg, which has been the only contact point for food in the village since 2011, could close its doors at the end of March 2025 if the owner Monika Rieker does not provide an attractive range of rent. Schilg himself is frustrated by the lack of investments in the property, while the heating costs for his supermarket rise immeasurably. "When I close, there is no longer a local supplier. This affects the older citizens," he complains.

The location in the shopping center on Neue Straße is always desolater. After the Schiebocker butcher was closed at the end of September 2024, a feeling of emptiness remains. Managing Director Andreas Basha attributes the closure to business difficulties: "The departure of the Kloßmühle bakery has hit us massively." In addition, there is the condition of the building in which it has not been invested for years. Basha emphasizes that the requirements of food surveillance are increasingly difficult to meet. The modern branch in Neukirch, which was opened in 2022, continues to offer customers a selection - but what will become of Steinigtwolmsdorf?

Monika Rieker, the 77-year-old owner of the building complex, has so far not found a new tenant for the empty shops. Although she is ready to negotiate with potential tenants, the situation seems hopeless. The mayor of Steinigtwolmsdorf, Kathrin Gessel, reports of the failed dialogue with Rieker and warns: "When Frank Schilg closes, we have a huge problem." The municipality is desperately looking for alternatives, including modern smart stores, to ensure the urgently needed local supply.
