Bautzen celebrates: Wenceslas market opens with shine and tradition!

Bautzen, Deutschland - An exciting day for Bautzen! According to a court ruling, the Kreissparkasse Bautzen must pay for 270 former customers from premium savings contracts. This decision follows a model declaratory action that the Saxons consumer center submitted in December 2021. The years of legal dispute came to an end in June 2024, and the Sparkasse has already transferred interest rates for a large part of the customers concerned. The rest will follow soon!

Kamenzer Hutberg restaurant has new operators

The Kamenz Hutberg restaurant, a popular meeting place on the local mountain, has finally found a new operator! After termination of the heritage law contract by the previous host, the city was looking for a successor. Despite four interested parties, only one applied whose concept was now approved by the city councils. From December 1, 2024, the new landlady will take over the business and bring a fresh wind to the traditional restaurant.

Another exciting point: The Bautzen city council has set up the application for a citizens' decision on the controversial Spreebrücke. This is originally supposed to take place in parallel to the Bundestag election in autumn, but the election is now held in February. The city administration emphasizes that a citizens' decision only makes sense if the funding for the project is secured. A species protection report will be drawn up by autumn 2025, and the citizens' decision could only take place in autumn 2026.

Wenceslas Market opens today

And that's not all! Today the Wenceslas Market Bautzen begins, which creates a festive atmosphere until December 22nd. Germany's oldest Christmas market offers everything from mulled wine to handicrafts at 80 stands. Children can look forward to Santa Claus, fairy tale lessons, a carousel and a petting zoo. The opening takes place at 5 p.m. with the arrival of King Wenzel IV, and the official tunnel intelligence takes place on the first Advent. The program rounds off a Sunday open for sales on December 1st!
