Wonderful journey of discovery: Halberstadt enchants on the trip!

The castle and city church community Wittenberg organized an exciting trip to Halberstadt, which met with great enthusiasm among the approximately 30 participants. Halberstadt, known for its historical importance, offers an astonishing abundance of cultural treasures, especially with regard to the cathedral and its diverse history. The journey that started by bus first led the group to the impressive cathedral, which was consecrated in 859. Today's cathedral was consecrated in 1491 and is an impressive testimony to the changeable history of Halberstadt.

The leadership through the cathedral gave the participants a deep insight into the historical development of the city and its significant role in the time of the Karolinger and Ottonen as well as during the Reformation in 1591. A particularly interesting detail was the mixture-confessional cathedral chapter, where Evangelical and Catholic clergymen prayed together for many years. The cathedral only became the Protestant parish church in 1810 and still shapes the cityscape.

A highlight was the story of how the legendary Halberstadt sausages came into the can - a piece of culinary history that certainly many interested.

The crowning glory of the excursion was the performance of the world's longest organ piece, Organ2/ASLSP, which has been played since 2001 and is to last until 2640. It is difficult to avoid this extraordinary piece of music, and the visitors were fascinated by the idea of actually acquiring a “final ticket” for the final concert in 2640 - a fascinating idea for future generations.

After these depths and many new impressions, the group started the return trip to Wittenberg. Singing happily on the bus, and the travelers exchanged their experiences and thoughts about the discoveries of the day.
