On Sunday, November 17, 2024, Halle (Saale) becomes the scene of moving memorial events on the occasion of the Memorial Day. At 11.30 a.m., citizens and dignitaries gather in the Gertrauden cemetery, Landrain 25 to commemorate the victims of war and tyranny. Mayor Egbert Geier will take part in the ceremony, while the memorial speech by the rector of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Prof. Dr. Claudia Becker. A moving prayer for the "Birkenhahn" concentration camp takes place at 10 a.m. The parish area Trotha invites everyone to jointly commemorate the victims of the Nazi regime. The deputy for urban development and the environment, René Rebenstorf, will also speak at the end stop. The "Birkenhahn" concentration camp warehouse was a branch of the Buchenwald concentration camp during the dark years of National Socialism, in which over 1000 people were forced to work in the "Siebel aircraft works". A painful chapter that must not be forgotten!
