Stendal fights against tree deaths: 62 trees must be felled!

Stendal, Deutschland - Stendal - a dramatic fate for the trees in Stendal! In the past few months, the Hanseatic city has suffered from a devastating drought that has now had fatal consequences. More than 60 trees have to be felled, and that's just the beginning! The survey shows that 87 percent of these trees have already died. Particularly alarming: Some had to give way to overthrow. One example is a red oak in Grabenstraße that was affected by a dangerous mushroom.

drought demands your tribute

The drought has hit birch, rottorn and poplars. These trees are particularly susceptible to rapid wooden reducing after dying, which increases the risk of falling branches for passers -by. The city administration plans to make no replacement plantings for most felled trees in the upcoming planting season in order to save costs of around 19,000 euros. However, replacement plantings for 2025/2026 are already being planned for 29 folded, townscape -defining trees. Among them are twelve Allen trees from Bahnhofsstrasse and other important streets.

In spring 2024, 167 new trees are to be planted in Stendal, and the city relies on innovative watering rings made of plastic to better supply the young trees with water. This measure is intended to help combat drought and increase the chances of survival of the new plants. Despite the felling, the trees in Stendal increased compared to the previous year, with a total of 25,574 trees in the city, of which 9,281 are in the villages. But the challenges are great and the competitive pressure between the trees requires higher care effort.
