Children's rehabilitation sport in Stendal: joy of movement for small helpers from 2024!

Stendal- A new step in rehabilitation sport for children is dared to do by the disabled, rehabilitation and senior sports club Stendal (BRSSV) in autumn 2024. After many years of success with offers for adults, the association plans to offer the latest support. The chairman Christel Haaker emphasizes the importance of guided exercises: "After hip surgery or a heart attack, they are a key to finding back into life."

Not only adults need this type of support. The association's call is clear: Even children who live with developmental delays or mobility restrictions need such help. Katrin Kunert, the Vice President of Width, Prevention and Rehabilitation Sports by the German Disabled Sports Association: "Many children move too little for a variety of reasons." Kunert has completed an apprenticeship as a trainer for children's rehabilitation sports with a focus on orthopedics and mental impairments.

New offer for children

The rehabilitation sports offer is aimed at children aged five to nine years, from the last year of daycare to the second class of primary school. "In the past few weeks, we have distributed information material at schools, kindergartens and pediatricians to draw attention to our offer," continues Kunert. Initial feedback were promising. "We now hope that the parents will recognize the need for their children," she adds.

For participation, children need a prescription from the pediatrician so that they can take part in rehabilitation. Registration takes place with an initial discussion in the club, which can be reached on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the house of the clubs in Stendal. There, other interested adults also have the opportunity to report as a trainer for the adult groups.

content of the practice hours

The child rehabilitation haquetes will take place on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. and are expressly included. In small groups of five to seven participants, the focus will be on conveying the children joy in the movement. "We want to playfully introduce the potential of the children and offer them mobility aids," explains Kunert. The practice hours are designed in such a way that the children are not promoted individually, but in the group. Velvet the parents who are responsible for the care between the training sessions.

In the units, topics such as endurance, strength, balance and posture are on the agenda. The promotion of concentration, self -confidence and social behavior are also important components of the exercises. The aim is that the children perceive themselves better and experience success to gain trust in their skills.

This innovative step of the BRSSV Stendal could have far -reaching effects on the quality of life of children with special needs. "We are very excited to see how the offer is accepted," says Kunert optimistically. The sports club thus shows a clear commitment to inclusion and the health promotion of our youngest members.
