Schönebeck, Deutschland - On Monday, the highly expected Jewish week began in the Salzland district! District Administrator Markus Bauer and Mayor Bert Knoblauch welcomed around 40 guests with a festive start in the Salzland Museum. At a time when the global political situation is tense, Bauer urged to decide to counter xenophobia and anti -Semitism. "It is more important than ever," he said, while the series of events comes up with lectures, concerts, readings and tours until November 22nd to explore art and religion in a thoughtful but also carefree framework.

Mayor Bert Knoblauch emphasized the persistent presence of racist and xenophobic opinions in society and referred to the alarming anti -Semitic statements, which are still spread primarily on social media. "I am enthusiastic about the many projects that are offered in schools, tours, concerts and readings," he said, while praising people's commitment in the Salzland district. The Jewish Week, which is organized in cooperation with the Salzlandkreis, the city of Schönebeck (Elbe), the tailwind e.V., the Julius-Schniewind-Haus and the Schalom-Haus Schönebeck, aims to commemorate the victims of the extermination policy of National Socialism.The start of the intercultural week was celebrated at the beginning of September with the Culinario pleasure festival, which celebrated the variety in the Schönebeck Kurpark. It again became clear that in Schönebeck and the Salzlandkreis there is no space for racist and xenophobic views. A big thank you goes to Andrea Alzuro-Lopez, the city's equality officer, for her excellent organization and her commitment. "I hope that many people take the opportunity to immerse yourself in Jewish life," concluded Knoblauch.
