Magdeburg, Deutschland - Magdeburg is in literary departure! Marcus Hammerschmitt, the city's new city clerk, will take office on April 1. The 57-year-old author, journalist and photographer is the 13th carrier of this prestigious title since the introduction of the scholarship in 2013. With an impressive work of 23 books, including bestsellers such as "Der Glasmensch" and "Half-Dunk Licht", he brings a breath of fresh air to the literary scene. Hammerschmitt, who lives in Malente, plans to work in Magdeburg on his new novel "The Mission", which deals with the freedom of art in the modern world.

Hammerschmitt has big plans: he wants to conduct a diary that combines text and photography in order to explore the city from a new, artistic perspective. School readings and other literary projects are also on his agenda. The city clerk scholarship, which is equipped with 1,200 euros per month and a rent -free apartment, is aimed at German -speaking authors who literarily reflect on urban life. The jury, chaired by Regina-Dolores Stieler-Hinz, selected Hammerschmitt from 30 applications, including 27 from Germany and three from Austria.
