In the fascinating Gruson greenhouses of Magdeburg there are exciting news! The tiny, lightning -fast arrow poison frogs got offspring. Two yellow -stranded tree climbers, just 10 to 14 days old, enjoy their new life. Animal keeper Matthias Schielke reports of this special success, because arrow poison frogs are known for lending only a few eggs and have limited fertility. A truly rare moment in the world of amphibians!
The rearing of these little miracles is a real challenge. Schielke carefully monitored the fertilized eggs and fed the tadpoles. After about 100 days, the little frogs, which are now below one centimeter tall. But the excitement is not over yet: for the time being, the little ones are not allowed to go into the large terrarium because they still fall in the prey scheme of their own parents. The cannibalism among the arrow poison frogs is notorious, and their insatiable greed makes it necessary to protect the little ones until they are big enough to defend themselves.

The Gruson greenhouses are not only a botanical wonder, but also a home for numerous animal species. In addition to the arrow poison frogs, there are chameleons, kaimans, piranhas and bouquet quails. The tropical-botanical garden, which goes back to industrial Hermann Gruson, houses around 4,500 plant species from the tropics and subtropics.
