Sturmchaos in Stendal: Fire brigade in continuous use due to fallen trees!

A strong storm deep hit Saxony-Anhalt on Sunday morning and led to an increased use of emergency services. In several cities and municipalities, the fire brigade and other auxiliary services were required to remove fallen trees and fallen branches from the streets. The Stendal region and the Jerichower Land were particularly affected, as the responsible situation center reported.

In the early morning hours, especially between six and seven o'clock, numerous emergency calls were received by the Stendal police inspection. Callers reported that dangerous objects were blown across the streets, which temporarily led to traffic disabilities. However, the streets are now released for traffic.

A serious incident occurred on Autobahn 14 near Petersberg in the Saalekreis. A vehicle was captured by a strong gust of wind and pushed by the road, where it crashed into the center protection schedule. All four occupants - three adults and a toddler suffered minor injuries. The rescue workers were quickly on site and transported the injured to a hospital for further treatment.

The weather situation was previously classified as critical by the German Weather Service (DWD). There was a warning of level 2 of striking weather, which was true in various regions such as Anhalt-Bitterfeld, the Jerichower Land, Mansfeld-Südharz and the district of Stendal. The warnings referred to lightning strikes, falling objects, aquaplaning and hailsters. In the Harz, the warning of hurricane -like gusts also applies until the evening.

According to current reports, the weather situation is still unstable. Despite the rapid reactions of the emergency services, the situation remains tense. The efforts of the emergency services have contributed to quickly eliminating the dangerous obstacles and restoring the flow of traffic. Nevertheless, the population is asked to be particularly careful and take the weather warnings seriously.

The incidents in Saxony-Anhalt illustrate how unpredictable nature can be. The storm-deep events are further indication that caution is also required in regions that are not regularly affected by such weather events. The DWD will continue to observe the situation and publish corresponding updates.
