Rescue for the garden sleeper: Voluntary plants New habitat!

Osterode. A small, shy animal urgently needs help! The garden sleeper, a tiny being, is in the spotlight of the conservationists and is looking for a new habitat. The BUND for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) and the Lower Saxony State Forests have teamed up to give this rare animal that is threatened with extinction in many parts of Europe.

On Sunday, November 10th, there is an exciting planting campaign in Riefensbeek, in which volunteers can help! Not only a piece of nature is restored here, but also a valuable habitat for garden sleepers and other animal species is created. The action aims to plant a structurally rich forest edge to improve the living conditions for this animal. The garden sleeper, also lovingly called "Zorro", is known for its striking face drawing and was recently only detected in the Harz

Important details about the planting action

The planting campaign starts at 11:55 a.m. at the Riefensbeek Forestry Office (Sösetalstraße 37, Osterode). Sturdy footwear is a must, and if you have, you should bring work gloves as well as plant shovels and spades. A ride from Osterode may be organized, so register quickly! Interested parties can register by email to marc.filla@nds.bund.net or by phone at (0511) 965 69 78.

In this campaign, numerous domestic shrubs and trees are planted in order to create a valuable habitat for garden sleepers. The plants not only offer food, but also important hiding places for the shy animal. If you like to work physically and love nature, you are cordially invited to become part of this important project!
