Korbacher column: A look at the prehistoric period and the Missing Link of Evolution!

Korbacher Spalte, Deutschland - A fascinating chapter in the history of the earth comes alive in the Korbach column! Around 252 million years ago, at the end of Perm, the earth experienced its most devastating mass extinction. Almost three quarters of the land animals and 90 percent of the sea creatures fell victim to a catastrophic chain of volcanic eruptions and greenhouse gases. But in the middle of this darkness, the first ancestors of the mammals saw the light of the world - the therapy, which initiated a decisive evolutionary transformation with their fur and warm -flowered nature.

The Korbach column, an impressive 20 meter deep gap in the limestone northern Hesse, preserves the remains of this primeval creature. The Procynosuchus, a "primary world dacker" that is considered "Missing Link" between reptiles and the first mammals, is particularly remarkable. This unique find is the only evidence of its kind in the northern hemisphere! In addition to Procynosuchus, skeletal fragments of at least ten other primeval agricultural animals were also discovered, including the bizarre Dicynodontier, which cause a stir with their long cane teeth and beaky chewing locations.

insights into the prehistoric period

The Korbach column offers an incomparable view of the animal world 250 million years ago. Over 2,000 fossils have already been recovered here, and comparable finds are only known from a few other regions of the world. The fossils tell the story of a time when the culinary sea and extreme weather conditions shaped the survival of the animals. A sudden crack in the underground, caused by an earthquake, led to the skeletons of the animals being washed into the column where they were preserved for millions of years.

The discovery of these fossils by geologists in 1964 not only enriched science, but also revolutionized our understanding of evolution and the living environment in primeval times. The Korbach column is therefore not just a geological phenomenon, but a window in a long past era that brings us closer to the roots of our own existence.
