First snow on the chunk: winter harbinger in the Harz!

Brocken, 38879 Wernigerode, Deutschland - Winter has reached the Brocken in the Harz! On Wednesday, November 13th, the first snow fell and converted the majestic Brockenspitze into a winter fairytale country. The Harz narrow -gauge railways (HSB) confirm this frosty start, even if the snow is not yet enough for a thick ceiling. The snow came two days later compared to the previous year, but the anticipation for the cold season was unbroken!

Caution! The first snow not only brings joy, but also challenges. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there were up to five centimeters thick layers of ice that were hidden in dense fog. The view was only around 50 meters on the 1,141 meter high chunk in the morning. A truly frosty reception for everyone who is looking forward to the winter adventures!

Winter views

The question remains: will the snow stay? The weather forecasts are anything but wintry. Plus degrees have been announced for the coming days, and even at night it will hardly freeze. This means that the chunk probably has to take off its white dress quickly - at least until the weekend. The winter season of the HSB could still be a long time while the first flakes have already fallen. An exciting weather game that only increases the anticipation for winter!
