New Museum Lützen 1632: Insights into the horrors of war
After centuries -old conflicts and the shocking realities of the Thirty Years' War, the "Museum Lützen 1632" sees the light of day! After three and a half voltage -loaded years of construction, this impressive facility now opened its gates and unfolds the dark story of the bloody battle stump, adapted for future generations!
On Wednesday, the Museum was ceremoniously inaugurated by Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff. "An important contribution to national history," he praised the building designed by architect Peter Zirkel. With a budget of 8.4 million euros, this innovative museum shows the dramatic history of the Battle of Lützen, which took place on November 6, 1632 - one of the bloodiest confrontations of the Thirty Years' War! Here the armies of Gustav II meet Adolf and Albrecht von Wallenstein. Has anyone counted the 10,000 fallen soldiers and their shocking loss in this fateful battle?
a mass grave as a key experience
One of the most fascinating elements of the museum is the mass grave that displays the remains of 47 soldiers who fell in 1632. Archaeologists found the graves in 2011. The youngest soldier was only 14 years old! This captivating installation, which is presented in the exhibition space, is strongly reminiscent of the horrors of the war. Do not miss the opportunity to deal with the story - the exhibits, graphics and pictures on 450 square meters of exhibition space are an impressive testimony!
The museum appeals to the hearts of youth and is intended to raise awareness of the horrific past. Haseloff emphasizes the need to learn from history: "We have to keep the will for peace in our hearts and future generations." School classes and international guests are invited to deal with the lessons in history and to reflect on the questions characterized by war and violence.
The new museum in Lützen is not only positioned as a memory for the past, but also as a meeting point for education and exchange - a journey through time that not only tells about the cities of building history, but also about the life of the soldiers in one of the bloodiest conflicts in our history!
