Stalking in Saarland: Women in mortal danger - help urgently needed!

Saarland, Deutschland - A shocking increase in stalking cases in Saarland ensures alarm! Last year 37 cases were registered - a dramatic increase in over 60 percent compared to 2022! The police warn: in almost 90 percent of these cases, the victims also suffer physical violence. The four cases in which the victims or their relatives floated in mortal danger are particularly worrying. Stalking is not an isolated case, but a serious and growing problem!

The dangers of stalking

stalking, also known as a re -enactment, is a serious crime. According to §238 of the Criminal Code, a perpetrator can receive up to three years in prison. But reality is often much more brutal. The victims are often women - the White Ring reports that 80 percent of those affected are female. "Stalking is everyday life, also in Saarland," explains Roland Theis, state chairman of the White Ring. The psychological and physical consequences are devastating: those affected live in constant fear and avoidance places where they could meet their tormentor.

The threat from cyberstalking also increases. Perpetrators use digital means to harass and monitor their victims. "This is a new front that those affected have to defend themselves," warns Theis. The White Ring urgently demands more state protection for the victims. It is not enough to only pronounce contact bans - these must also be enforced! The suggestion to introduce electronic ankle cuffs for perpetrators could save lives, as the example from Spain shows where such measures are already successfully implemented.

The CDU parliamentary group recently submitted an application for electronic ankle cuffs for violent offenders, but this was rejected. For the upcoming state session in December, the CDU is planning a new attempt to enable the monitoring of women's racket. "We have to involve the Saarland government more," demands Anja Wagner-Scheid, deputy parliamentary group leader. Time is urged, because every hour counts to protect women from violence!
