Bliesgau-Molkerei insolvent: Saarland's last dairy in need!
In an alarming turn, the Bliesgau dairy in Ommersheim, the only dairy in Saarland and one of the oldest organic farms in the region, had to register bankruptcy. The bankruptcy was necessary due to significant tax liabilities of around 80,000 euros, as both the Saarland radio and the Rheinpfalz report. Insolvency administrator Virginia Thom was appointed in September and is now looking for potential buyers or investors for the company that has existed for almost 20 years and has originally been founded to process and sell local milk directly.
acute challenges
Despite the financial difficulties, the sales of the Bliesgau dairy remains stable because no supermarkets have been jumped off as buyers. There was no significant change in sales, but the company faces the challenge of lifting milk prices. A risk that Thom assesses as problematic, since higher prices could possibly lead to a decline in customers, which then find the milk too expensive. For the ten employees: At first there should be no changes in the company, which initially promises a certain stability in the uncertain situation.
The age and misery of the Bliesgau dairy is reflected in the general situation of other organic farms in Saarland. It recently became known that the Bioland vegetable ceremony Denis in the adjacent Lisdorf had to close in April 2025. This could change the landscape of regional organic producers. The search for a buyer or investor for the Bliesgau dairy is therefore all the more urgent to ensure the ongoing processing and delivery of fresh milk, as in the reports of sr and Rheinpfalz is impressively documented.
