Zweibrücken breathes on: Kubota takes over Tadano plant for the future!
A significant upheaval in the Zweibrück industrial landscape: The Kranbauer Tadano announced on Thursday that it will sell a large part of his work on the airport site to Kubota Baumaschinen manufacturer GmbH. This was confirmed by both companies in a press release. With an area of around 87,000 square meters, which comprises several production halls and an administration building, the months of uncertainty ends over the future of the work. Reports from Saarbrücker Zeitung said the Mayor Marold Wosnitza about the decision and described it as Excellent news for the Zweibrücken industrial location.
Details on the sales process
As early as February, Tadano announced the closure of one of his two works in Zweibrücken, which was to lead to the discharge of over 400 employees. After intensive negotiations with IG Metall, this number could be reduced to 249 jobs. Despite the sale, an undeveloped part of the property remains in the possession of Tadano to maintain production processes. However, the exact amount of the sale remains secret, since Tadano and Kubota have contractually agreed not to publish any details, such as SWR reported.
For Kubota, buying means strengthening the production capacities in the area of mini excavators and wheel loaders and shows the company's commitment to the Zweibrücken location. Kubota is already the third largest employer in the city, and Toshitaka Matsuo, managing director of Kubota Baumaschinen, sees great potential in this investment, which will also be useful for the entire region in the long term. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain what effects the purchase will have on the existing jobs, since a takeover of tadano employees is not in the room, as Kubota spokeswoman Anne-Kathrin Simon made clear.
