Bicycle path between Bechhofen and Lambsborn: Finally opened after 30 years!
The completion of the long -planned cycle path between Bechhofen and Lambsborn is a milestone for the two neighboring communities. After a delay of 30 years, the bike path was handed over to its destination on Friday, a moment that was recognized with a small celebration. In addition, not only the mayors came together, but also many villagers who can now cycle and walk between the two villages in the shortest way.
The relationship between Bechhofen and Lambsborn is deeply rooted. Both children from Bechhofen visit the daycare center in Lambsborn and the two communities share a pastor. Nevertheless, networking through the bike path remained an unfulfilled wish for a long time. The origin of the project goes back to Pastor Vieweg, who had already proposed the idea of a cycle path 30 years ago, but could not be implemented for various reasons. It was only in 2020 when the two mayors Rudi Molter von Lambsborn and Paul Sefrin von Bechhofen took up the initiative again, inspired by the former Bechhofer resident Roland Becker.
challenges in implementation
It quickly turned out that the realization of the bike path was more than just a technical challenge. Since two associations-Bruchmühlbach-Miesau and Zweibrücken-Land-as well as the districts of Kaiserslautern and Südwestpfalz had to be included, coordinated cooperation was required. Thanks to the tireless commitment of the mayors, the necessary permits and approvals could be obtained. The bike path was built on a natural surface in order to avoid additional sealing of soils and to impair the landscape as little as possible
Rudi Molter, who suffered seriously ill last year and was only recently operated on, was present at the handover celebration. His joy over the perfect cycle path was reflected in his words. "We thought a lot about this path and planned. The need has always been available, and it will help promote conviviality in our communities," said Molter under the applause of those present. He recalled that they had designed the plans in his own premises and described the bike path as a "beautiful way".
the financial aspect
Although the original cost estimate of 76,000 euros was estimated for the 1.8 km long bike path, the project ended with costs of 117,000 euros. Unexpected repair work that became necessary in Lambsborn was to blame for this, since the soil conditions there were unsuitable for construction after the last rains. Kaiserslautern's District Administrator Ralf Leßmeister confirmed that the financing of the project was secured by promoting the Leader Group Westrich-Glantal, which increase the funding rate from originally 70 to 75 percent because the project was considered very valuable.
Markus Schwarz, Molter's successor, emphasizes the importance of the path initiative: "This cycle path is not only a connecting piece between Bechhofen and Lambsborn, but also shows how inter -municipal cooperation can lead to new, sustainable solutions." With the official opening of the cycle path, a new section in the neighborhood relationship between the two municipalities is shaped, which is linked even closer to everyday life. The positive energy that emerged from the collaboration gives hope for a promising future for the two villages.
