Mission Green Possible: The innovative learning game for students!
Hochschule Worms, Worms, Deutschland - The Department of Tourism/Transport at the Worms University of Applied Sciences has created an innovative, digital learning game called "Mission Green Possible". Students can now get to know the techniques of scientific work in an entertaining way and expand their knowledge in a practical way. In this captivating game, the participants slip into the roles of fictional professor Laura Kraft, who tries to acquire funding for a sustainable tourism project. The players have to compete against a secret adversary who does everything they can to sabotage the project.
The game not only promotes understanding, but also the use of scientific methods by countering the students with well -founded knowledge of the opponent's plans. As a result, the challenge not only becomes a theoretical exercise, but an exciting mission in which the learning objectives are clearly defined.
learning objectives and creative design
"Our goal was to find a method of conveying scientific work in a playful way," says Prof. Dr. Jan Drengner, who led the development of the game. The didactic concept stipulates that several learning videos are combined with a total of 13 interactive mini -games. These mini -games build on the theoretical applications of the various techniques, such as cited literature research or cite the right one.
The students have the opportunity to apply the newly learned knowledge directly, which contributes to an effective learning experience. Simon Schröder, a master student at the department, was actively involved in the graphic design of the game. "The development was a great way to put our creative ideas into a useful learning tool," he explains enthusiastically. The process of transforming the ideas of the fellow students into a functioning game was extremely exciting and motivating for everyone involved.
The development of "Mission Green Possible" was an interdisciplinary project that under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jan Drengner and Yvonne Langenbucher. Many concepts were developed together with the students, which contributed to the fact that the content was tailored to the needs of the students.
The technical implementation of the game, which students and employees of the Informatics department realized under the direction of Prof. Werner König, is particularly noteworthy. The first prototype was created as part of a practice -oriented module in which the students had the opportunity to develop complex software projects.Prof. König states: "The close cooperation between the departments has presented an exciting challenge. The didactics and the technical requirements had to be amalgamated in such a way that they both demand and motivate the students." This combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application has proven to be extremely valuable.
The test phase of the game in the summer semester already showed positive feedback from the students and confirmed the effectiveness of the game for learning success. The feedback was actively integrated into the further development of the game concept, so that "Mission Green Possible" will be an integral part of the curricular offer in the department from the winter semester 2024/25.
Already now all students from the Worms University of Applied Sciences have the opportunity to access the game. Via the link: lerbiel.it.hs-worms.de you can call up the content at any time and deepen your skills in scientific work in an interactive way.
