Handling forces B51 in Trier for full closure - traffic stands still!
On January 11, 2025, the B51 in Trier between the Kaiser-Wilhelm Bridge and Bonner Strasse will remain completely closed due to a landslide. This landslide was caused by dissolved boulders on the red rock that fell on the street. A geologist is on site to clarify the situation. A passage to Pallien is currently not possible, while Bitburger Straße and the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge are accessible, but must be expected with considerable delays.
A larger boulder was narrowly missed the “Bitburger Straße” bus stop, in which a person was unharmed at that time. Accordingly, the authorities have already taken measures: a special company installed a mobile fan fence system to secure the slope, as other chunks could detach. For this reason, a section of Bitburger Straße remains closed until further notice and the sidewalk on the slope towards Pallien and the bus stop remains closed. Bus lines 2, 8, 11 and 18 run due to the blocking. Lines 2 and 11 are diverted towards the city center via Aachener Straße and Römerbrücke and line 8 towards Quint/Schweich via Zurmaiener Straße and A602. Line 18 drives diversions between Bruchhausenstrasse and Biewer Süd.
Restoration of traffic conditions
As early as January 10, 2025, the B51 was completely released for cars after a previous slope slip on Bitburger Strasse in Trier. The rush hour traffic was able to pass the position on Friday morning, although the slope -side walkway remained closed. In the early Friday morning, traffic disruptions occurred due to an accident with two collidating vehicles, which briefly staggered the traffic.
In the afternoon of January 10, a specialist company began securing the slope to prevent additional rocks. The demolition occurred in the direction of Trier-West, near the bus stop "Bitburger Straße", where, as mentioned before, a larger boulder just missed the bus stop and luckily no injuries were to be complained about.
