City councilors leave the hall: Protest against AfD inquiries in Speyer!

Speyer, Deutschland - Speyer in the turmoil: City councilors leave the hall! On Thursday there was a dramatic protest in the city council of Speyer: The city councilors of the SPD, Greens, Left and UFS left the meeting room before the AfD had two controversial inquiries answered. With this brave step they wanted to send a clear sign against the right -wing populist party!

The AfD had submitted explosive questions that referred to the emergency accommodation in Industriestrasse and the use of city funds. Particularly piquant: The AfD wanted to know which projects and organizations in Speyer, who receive the city's funds, did not get involved against the AfD. Johannes Gottwald from the SPD sharply criticized the AfD and spoke of a "double strategy" that split society. "Not like that!" He called to the AfD representatives and asked for a break between inquiries.

The reactions of the other political groups were clear: Jana Dreyer from the Greens described the AfD inquiries as a waste of time and blocking for the city council. "Leaving the hall is our democratic protest against such content and movements," she said. The left also agreed to this opinion and criticized the AfD attacks on the youth councilor. Mayor Monika Kabs (CDU) decidedly rejected the allegations of the AfD.

In the middle of this heated debate, AfD parliamentary group leader Benjamin Haupt spoke up and accused the other factions to abuse democratic structures. "Left -wing extremists get post from the city," he claimed what was sharply rejected by the head of the meeting. Ultimately, 25 council members voted for a break, while the representatives of the SPD, Left, Greens and UFS left the hall while answering the inquiries and later returned. A political drama that heats the minds in Speyer!
