Speyer starts hydrogen project: Stadtwerke are looking for strong partners!

Speyer, Deutschland - The Stadtwerke Speyer (SWS) are at the start of a groundbreaking hydrogen project! With a state -of -the -art electrolyser and a powerful battery venue, you want to drive the energy transition forward. These innovative systems are to be created in the Speyer district, whereby the electrolyser may be connected directly to the existing supply network. In order to implement this forward -looking project, the municipal utilities are now urgently looking for cooperation partners from the economy. "Hydrogen is the energy source of the future and we want to open up a new business area," explains a spokesman for the SWS.

The first talks with potential partners are already in full swing, and the negotiations are "far advanced". However, there are no contractually bound partners. Companies that currently cover their high energy requirements with natural gas are particularly addressed. "We still have places freely in the consortium to promote hydrogen production together. Especially companies from the logistics industry are in demand," said the SWS. Christoph Doll, team leader for business customers, announces that a regional “energy honeycomb” is planned to link the expansion of renewable energies and hydrogen production.

green hydrogen for the future

The focus of the municipal utility lies on green hydrogen, which is generated using an electrolyser. "We split water through renewable energy in hydrogen and oxygen," explains Dominique Theuer, project engineer for renewable energies. Should it be possible to realize the project with partners, the marketing of regionally generated hydrogen could also attract attention to local companies. Funding would also be an option. The SWS already produce a lot of energy from wind power and photovoltaics, but with negative stock market prices, many systems have to be switched off. "With a battery memory, we can continue to run the systems and provide constant green electricity for hydrogen production," added the fire. She demands a rethink: a high gas consumption is not a sustainable solution.
