Speyer, Deutschland - In Speyer, the future of the monumental sculpture "Obelisk" is discussed. The 7.50 meter high work of art is currently located in the backyard of the "Residenz am Königsplatz" hotel. The SPD politician Udo Zapf has proposed to move the obelisk into public space, more precisely to the Lindenstrasse roundabout. This would be a heart of the artist Fred Feuerstein, who inspected this location shortly before his death and agreed. However, the decisions in the building committee remain open, and alternative locations were also stimulated, for example between Ludwigstraße and the Große Sahmergasse, such as the Rheinpfalz reported.
A major challenge in the transfer of the sculptures is the question of costs - these could be in the five -digit range and require the use of a crane. According to Robin Nolasco, the department head in the town hall, vandalism could also endanger the work of art at a new, remote location. The city is therefore faced with the difficult decision, while the cultural committee will discuss the proposal again. There are also considerations that a private initiative could cover the costs for the move.

The striking sculpture was designed in such a way that the small red tiles flutter in the wind movement like curtains and thus create a living picture. The financing of the approximately 20,000 marks sculpture took over Blotenberg itself, while the city and the Rhein-Erft district shared the costs for transport and list. This work of art not only gives the roundabout aesthetic value, but also shows the commitment of the local community for creative urban design.
