Hope and eternity: Brahms meets Bruckner in the Speyer Cathedral!
The International Music Days Dom zu Speyer are climaxed with an impressive final concert. On 4 p.m. in the cathedral, the musical work of Brahms and Bruckner is on the program, whereby the focus is on hope and eternity. At the beginning of the concert, two pieces of Brahms are played: the tragic overture in D minor op. 81 and the third part of the "German Requiem", which ends with the optimistic turn "I hope for you" in D major.
The program then leads the audience back to Bruckner's influence. Particularly noteworthy is the Adagio of its fifth symphony, which begins in D minor, but is enriched with a hymnic melody in C major. This musical background reflects the deeper message of the final concert, which addresses the belief in hope in eternity. Bruckner's work closes with the powerful credo and the Te Deum, both of which are strongly embedded in the key C major. This musical arc is connected to a strong symbolism in the cathedral, since the words of Bruckner can be found directly at the grave of the composer in the St. Florian Abbey.
top -class soloists
The concert is enriched by an impressive occupation of top -class soloists. Under the musical direction of cathedral conductor Markus Melchiori, the cathedral youth choir and the Domchor Speyer will perform. The Austrian soprano Elisabeth Breuer, known from the opera scene, recently sang in Salzburg at the Bruckner Te Deum and will return to Speyer in May. She is supported by the mezzo -soprano Bettina Ranch, who has been active in cathedral music for many years and has demonstrated her skills in the Te Deum.
The tenor Henning Jendritza, studied theological doctoral student, and bass player Christof Fischesser, who is known from his time at the Baden State Theater, fit seamlessly into the ranks of the talented performers. Jendritza is valued for his oratorio and concert singer career, while Fischesser, which is also active on renowned opera houses, will enrich concerts in Speyer.
organ music in g
Yesterday was musically scored in the cathedral: Cathedral Organist Markus Eichenlaub carried out an organ concert that started with Brahms ’G minor prelude. The performance was particularly impressive, since oak leaves followed Bach's fugue BWV 577 and continued with other important works such as the Scherzo by Marco Enrico Bossi and a G major choral fantasy by Johann Ludwig Krebs. The first set of the organ infony No. 6 G minor from Widor crowned the afternoon and let the cathedral shine in magnificent sound.
tickets for the final concert are available via the Dom-Info on Domplatz 1B and the tourist information at Maximilianstrasse 13 and also online. Interested tickets can also purchase tickets at all reservix ticket agencies.
