Stadthalle Speyer: Rent rising - but what about the clubs?
Stadthalle Speyer: Rent rising - but what about the clubs?
The town hall in Speyer is faced with an important decision: For the first time since 2013, the rent for the premises is to be increased. The reason for this measure is that your own income of the town hall only covers a small part of the costs incurred. Six different variants for the rental price increase have currently been developed, with a proposal being chosen as a favorite in the main committee, but in somewhat modified form.
The different variants mainly focus on two aspects: the amount of the rent and the discounts for local clubs. While the parliamentary groups agree that the town hall should continue to act as the “living room of the city”, the question remains to what extent the rent can be increased in the room. Philipp Brandenburger from the SPD expressed that his faction was most impressed by the first two suggestions, although the increase in rent remains minimal.
rental price increases in detail
Specifically, the rental price increase was targeted from 770 to 800 euros from Monday to Thursday, while in the second proposal it was to rise to 900 euros. On the weekends and public holidays, the rental price would be increased from 850 to 900 euros (in the second proposal to 1000 euros). One might think that these are not drastic measures, but Mike Oehlmann warned of the FDP: "It is not enough to renovate the budget, but the costs have increased significantly."
A thought that was discussed in the committee meetings was the opportunity to increase the rent even further. According to the proposal three, the rent could be between 1000 and 1200 euros, while the clubs might receive 60 or 65 percent discount. This idea was well received by the committee members and Mayor Stefanie Seiler, who recognized the potential of this proposal.
Specifically, a new, modified variant - we call it a proposal 3.1 - could be created, in which the reduced rental price for Speyer clubs would remain with a 60 percent discount at 400 euros. This sum would be comparable to the first suggestions, since the discount should not be below the currently discussed level.
regular rent adjustments
The idea of checking the rental prices regularly and pairing to the consumer price index is also impressive. Brandenburger appealed to his colleagues to hold a corresponding session every two years in order to evaluate the rental prices again and to adapt it if necessary. This measure met with broad approval, but is only implemented if the city council gives the green light on October 10th.From the meeting in the main committee, it shows that the discussion about the rent structure creates clear ideas about the future development of the city hall in Speyer. This proposal could help to cope with the financial challenges and at the same time to accommodate the local associations. It remains to be seen how the city council reacts to these developments and to what extent the desired changes are implemented.
