A glimmer of hope for the dying: Hospice Rhein-Lahn opens its doors!
Nassau, Deutschland - On December 23, 2024, the Rhein-Lahn hospice in Nassau was ceremoniously opened, which was honored with great enthusiasm by over 500 visitors. Dr. Martin Schencking, the chairman of the association, spoke of a "Christmas miracle" after the timely completion of the new building has succeeded despite extensive construction problems. From January 2025, the first guests can be recorded in the modern rooms that offer space for eight hospice guests. In order to enable the guests a dignified dying, two palliative careers and 17 nurses are available around the clock, while a family atmosphere offers atmosphere.
a milestone for the region
The opening of the first inpatient hospice in the Rhein-Lahn district represents significant progress, especially for families who will no longer have to travel great distances in the future in order to visit their seriously ill relatives. Many donations and the support of the G. and I. Leifheit Foundation have only made this possible, as Dr. Schencking emphasized. Despite financial setbacks, such as the theft of electrical cables, the project was continued and the completion has now been secured. The facility is preparing to welcome the first guests in a home full of dignity and warmth, which many visitors referred to as great achievement.
A highlight of the opening was the artistic design of the "space of silence" by Aloys Rump, who donated his works to give the dying hope. The entire financing of the hospice is based on donations, which shows the great gratitude of those responsible, including the Mayor Manuel Liguori. He and District Administrator Jörg Denninghoff expressed their hope that the hospice would become a place of consolation and accompaniment, which benefits the entire region. The project is therefore not only a help for those affected, but also a ray of hope for the entire community, as well as the supposedly simple expression of Dr. Josef Peter Mertes illustrated: "May the hospice be a lighthouse of humanity and care".
