From the vine to the garden: the fascinating history of the Christoffel!
Pirmasens, Deutschland - In 1891 the remarkable history of the Chrioffel nursery in Pirmasens began. Peter Christoffel, once a winemaker on the Moselle, had to hang his passion in the Horebstadt and ventured into the nursery. He laid the foundation for a family tradition that still lives on today. The move from Elisenstraße to Darmstädter Straße in 1912 was not only a change of location, but also the possibility of consolidating the business bases. This development marked the beginning of a successful nursery, which was characterized by manual skills and regional reference, and can be followed up to this year, as the Rheinpfalz reported .
Latest developments in the winery
As part of a comprehensive redesign of the WINGE SHEET Hof, new grape varieties were introduced. The "second field clearance" enabled a simplification in the purchase and exchange of vineyards, which led to a further development of the winery. Jan Matthias, who heads the family winery, took the chance to plant mushroom -resistant grape varieties (PIWIS), including Muscaris, Souvignier Gris and Donauriesling. These varieties have the advantage that they rarely need crop protection. The winery stretches today over around 13 hectares and offers a wide range of varieties, including Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Noir. For the future, other ecological measures such as an Agroforst project are planned to open the promising perspectives for the sustainability of the company, which also emphasizes the website of the Staffelter Hof.
