According to the brand new "Glücksatlas" 2024, a comprehensive survey on the quality of life in Germany, the state is now in fifth place - a remarkable jump from 12th place in the previous year. With a value of 7.11 on a scale from 1 to 10, Rhineland-Palatinate even exceeds the 2019 pre-corona level when satisfaction was 7.03. In comparison, the value in 2023 was still 6.79. recovery after crises

After the difficult times of Corona pandemic and the devastating flood disaster in the Ahr Valley in July 2021, there is a strong well-being in Rhineland-Palatinate. The study emphasizes that life satisfaction in the affected counties in 2024 has a significant increase. People feel better objectively, and the high quality of life is now reflected in the numbers.

not everything shines! While the stable labor market and a high rate of residential property (50.7 percent - the second highest value in Germany) are considered the strengths of the country, there are regional differences. In the categories of family and job satisfaction, Rhineland-Palatinate is below the national average. Job satisfaction is rather low, especially in cities such as Pirmasens, Bad Dürkheim and Worms. In contrast, people in the Hunsrück and Westerwald report on a high level of satisfaction, while cities such as Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens or Idar-Oberstein remain significantly behind rural areas.

The comprehensive survey was carried out between July 2023 and June 2024, with 12,452 people aged 16 and over. An additional survey on the areas of life, income, family and health took place between February and April 2024, in which 3,161 citizens aged 16 and over. In addition, 2,000 Germans between the ages of 18 and 65 were interviewed about East-West differences.
