B 262: Traffic collapse threatens! Full closure between door and Mendig!

between Thür and Mendig will be extensive road construction work on federal road B 262 in the coming weeks. This renewal of the road is expected to be expected for the period from 14 to October 24, 2024. In order to be able to carry out the necessary work safely and efficiently, the affected section is completely blocked over a length of 3.1 km during the autumn holidays.

The decision for a full block was made for structural and safety reasons. Road users have to adjust to some diversions during this time. Traffic is diverted via the A 61 motorway, with the junctions Mendig to Kruft play a central role. There is even an additional large -scale detour from the A 48 at the Mayen junction to the Koblenzer Kreuz. From there, the route continues via the A 61 to the Mendig junction. In order to make it easier for the affected road users to orientate, the diversions are signposted on site.

coordination and security aspects

An important aspect of this upcoming construction work is the extensive traffic cord, which was organized in advance. In addition to the police and fire brigade, various representatives of the municipal administration and public transport were also involved in these votes. This ensures that all relevant areas are included in the planning of the traffic management in order to minimize possible problems from the outset. The responsible company for the implementation of the work, Christoph Schnorpfeil GmbH from Trier, received the order after a public tender. The total cost of the measure amounts to 750,000 euros, which are fully borne by the federal government.

The need for this renovations results from the poor road quality on the B 262, which is characterized by crushes, cracks and potholes. Bernd Cornely, the head of the Mobility (LBM) Cochem-Koblenz, emphasizes: "In order to continue to ensure traffic safety here, the asphalt binding and covering layer must be renewed." When the work is completed, the quality of the roadway is significantly improved, which should have positive effects on safety and driving comfort.

The LBM Cochem-Koblenz asks all road users for understanding the inevitable impairments during the construction period and emphasizes that current information on traffic routing can also be called up via the mobility atlas at traffic.rlp.de. The importance of this measure cannot be overempened, since the maintenance of the traffic routes is a basic requirement for the safety of all road users.
