Mainz celebrates success: 20,000 additional passengers attract 0 euro days!

Mainz, Deutschland - In Mainz, the transport companies cheer! Since July of this year, people have been celebrating an exciting “0-euro Saturday”, which every first Saturday of the month transports them free of charge by bus and trams. This sensational offer arrives like a bomb - and the numbers speak for themselves: Over 20 percent more passengers were counted on these days! Only in September did around 20,000 people use public transport compared to the previous year, which the excitement and curiosity around this campaign continued!

The enthusiasm of the Mainz city leaders is unmistakable. Mayor Nino Haase is enthusiastic about the success of the campaign and emphasizes that attractive offers strengthen local public transport and at the same time revitalize the city center. "It is fantastic to see how many people have accepted our free offer, because this not only benefits public transport, but also to retail and gastronomy," said Haase. The responsible traffic department, Janina Steinkrüger, also sees the increased passenger numbers a positive effect for climate protection, because the use of public transport can reduce emissions.

Retail is also satisfied: Annette Plachetka, chair of the Mainz advertising association, reports on an increase in customer frequency in the shops. Positive feedback from people confirms the successful course of the previous 0 euro sam. Nevertheless, there are also critical voices: the Rhineland-Palatinate trade association points out that the offer is particularly important for the Mainz and attracts people from the surrounding area to a limited extent. "But it is a gift for trading in the city center because we were severely restricted by construction sites," says Association President Jan Sebastian.

The "0-euro Saturday" project runs until June 2025, with a total of eight further Saturdays in sight. But whether this action will continue afterwards is in the stars - a detailed evaluation will only take place after the project ends.
