Mainz blooms on: Celebrities plant vines in the Wein capital project!
In the heart of Mainz, a very special project blooms: The Mainz celebrity-Weinberg! Here, stars and politicians such as Otto Waalkes, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Thomas Anders plant their own vines and thus set an example for the city as a wine capital of Germany. This media-effective action, which was launched in 2007, not only draws attention to the viticulture tradition, but also gives Mainz a touch of glamor.
The vineyard, initiated by the Mainz wine senate, quickly developed into a popular attraction. Prominent personalities are selected as sponsors to plant the vines and thus gain the title "Consitor Senatus Vineti" - an honorary title that gives you a bottle of wine from the grapes of your own vine every year. This unique connection between prominence and viticulture strengthens the city's demands on the title of the wine capital and ensures a hustle and bustle in the region.
a Walk of Wine for the stars
Since 2021, visitors to the vineyard can stroll on the "Walk of Wine", which is reminiscent of the famous "Walk of Fame" in Hollywood. Each vine is provided with a name band that provides information about the respective sponsors. This innovative approach makes the vineyard not only a place of cultivation, but also an experience for tourists and locals alike.
The location of the vineyard is spectacular: on the edge of the old town of Mainz, directly below the Citadel and near the Roman theater, it offers a breathtaking view of the cathedral and the historical environment. A visit is possible on foot from the old town and promises unforgettable impressions of Mainz and its winegrowing culture.
