Mainz 05: Millions of loss despite stability - Hofmann stays on board!

Mainz, Deutschland - The past season was an emotional adventure for Mainz 05, which ended with a spectacular rescue. But the financial figures speak a different language: the association recorded a loss of 4.5 million euros for the 2023/24 financial year, after a minus of 2.5 million euros in the previous year. Equity shrank from 39.4 million to 34.5 million euros. The total turnover also fell from 125.6 million to 121.8 million euros, which is primarily due to a decline in transfer sales by around 6 million euros.

The general meeting in the MEWA-Arena revealed an effort of 126 million euros, with 49.2 million euros in the license player department. Expenditures for the professionals rose by more than 5.5 million euros, which is due to the "enormous bad luck of injury" in the squad. This led to subsequent obligations of players such as Josuha Guilavogui and Anwar El Ghazi. CEO Stefan Hofmann remains optimistic and emphasized: "As a relatively small fish, we can still say: We are economically healthy."

Hofmann fights for Mainz 05

Stefan Hofmann was confirmed in office for another three years without opposing candidates. One of his greatest challenges will be the future distribution of media revenues in the league association. Hofmann opposes the demands of traditional clubs and calls for a distribution based on the performance principle. "The media revenues should continue to be distributed according to the performance principle. With another pillar that is called efficiency," says Hofmann.

The elections were relatively unspectacular, and an application for the abolition of the Var was not approved because it did not fell into the competence of the general meeting. Despite the financial challenges, the association remains stable and fights for its interests in the league.
