Fraud in Mainz: Police officers warn of unscrupulous calls!

On Monday, October 21, 2024, several people fell victim to the sneaky fraudsters, who were spending as bank employees and their victims around their hard -working savings. The police are investigating and warning against these unscrupulous calls. At least two cases have already been known - the number of unreported cases could be much higher!

A 55-year-old woman from Mombach received a fake SMS during the day that was supposed to come from her bank. A dangerous link was hidden in it. Suddenly her phone rang and a man introduced himself as a bank employee. He claimed that unauthorized persons wanted to access their bank account. In her panic, the woman forwarded a TAN to the caller, who turned out to be bloodcath that 2500 euros were transferred from her account during the conversation before the conversation ended abruptly, interrupted by annoying noises.
But the mesh attracted more victims! A 53-year-old man from Bretzenheim received a call from an alleged employee of the Sparkasse Rheinhessen-Worms on the same day. The fraudster brought him into the trap with skillful words and stated that unauthorized persons have access to his account. To "avert damage", the man should confirm a push-tan message on his cell phone. As soon as the conversation was over, he found the shocking loss of almost 1000 euros!

The Mainz police warns for caution! It calls all citizens: Inside, never revealing personal data such as passwords or tan on the phone. With the slightest uncertainty, it is better to end the conversation immediately and contact the bank yourself.
