The latest figures from the regional association Frankfurt-Rhein-Main reveal that every fifth inhabitant is now at least 65 years old. Last year, the region recorded an increase of 2.7 percent, especially through immigration. However, the balance from the birth and death rates is frightening: almost 14,000 more deaths than births! Only in Mainz, Offenbach and Frankfurt can we speak of a birth surplus. Even the gray hair in the metropolitan region is becoming more and more numerous!

In 2023 there were over 45,000 new faces in the region, especially in the districts of Main-Kinzig, Offenbach and Hochtaunus. Over 20 percent of the population are now of non -German origin, a record value that underlines diversity in the region. In addition, the number of those seeking protection, mostly from Ukraine, rose to almost 240,000!

The forecasts continue to see a positive trend: over 360,000 people are to be added by 2045. Frankfurt/Rhein-Main remains a magnet for new residents. But the chances are not distributed everywhere; While the big cities are prospering, a decline is expected in rural circles such as Vogelsberg and Miltenberg. This drastic change is documented by the current census, which is updated by 2025 - a constant process!
